CICI The Centre for Intercultural Communication and Interaction at Ghent University (Belgium) started in 2000 as a research unit that pays attention to fundamental research as well as to the implementation of such research in the cultural field. The latter involves the execution of commissioned policy research projects as well as regular intervention in/contribution to social discussions and to social/cultural projects in development. CICI brings together researchers from diverse fields and specialties that nevertheless share a focus on identity, interculturality and diversity. The following fields of study are represented: • Interdisciplinary anthropology • Comparative study of religion • Gender studies • Postcoloniality studies • Performative anthropology • Applied research on interculturality CICI employs independent researchers who focus on religion, gender, and anthropology as well as on such issues as culture, cultural difference, urbanization, pictorial culture, cultural pluralism and interculturality. This research engenders results, such as scientific publications in the form of books and articles in important journals within the aforementioned fields of study, as well as products such as films, essays, educational material and information reports for policy makers and others in society. |
