The Centre for Intercultural Communication and Interaction at Ghent University (Belgium) started in 2000 as a research unit that pays attention to fundamental research as well as to the implementation of such research in the cultural field. The latter involves the execution of commissioned policy research projects as well as regular intervention in/contribution to social discussions and to social/cultural projects in development.
Since its beginning, CICI has brought together researchers from diverse fields and specialties that nevertheless share a focus on identity, interculturality and diversity, from fields such as: anthropology, gender studies, comparative study of religion, postcolonial studies, performative anthropology and applied research on interculturality.
CICI participates in international projects and networks.
